Cessnock Community Performing Arts Centre

When Cessnock City Council called tenders for the construction of a new Community Performing Arts Centre on the corner of Vincent and Aberdare Roads Cessnock, over 13 tenders were received. North Construction was chosen from this field as the successful bidder.

The project consists of a 472 seat performing arts theatre, theatre sound and lighting equipment, performance stage, entry foyer, lounge, change rooms and public toilets, plus the conversion & renovation of the existing 2 storey building into business offices & community areas. North Construction completed the project within the contract duration of 44 weeks. The construction included the removal of existing asbestos, demolition of existing buildings; retention and remedial works associated with the retention of the existing heritage facades. Construction utilised pre-cast concrete and structural steel with high level architectural finishes throughout. During construction of the community centre, access was severely hampered by an existing open stormwater channel that runs under the building on 2 sides.

Building in and around existing buildings and facades required a close working relationship with the architect and consultants, ensuring that the design and structural intent were captured. In consultation with the architect North Construction were able to provide the client with multiple savings during the construction.
